Rigs
Rugged choice for deep, rough ground. The pulley lifts the lead on the take; a pennel holds big mackerel/squid/bluey baits ling prefer. Ideal from NE rock marks and piers in strong tide.
Weak-link sinker on a pulley for savage kelp/rock. If the lead snags it parts, saving the fish. Fish whole fish baits tight to wrecky ground and ledges, especially after dark.
Clip-down casting with a dropper that releases on impact, giving a long snood pinned to the seabed. Neatly presents bulky baits at range and copes with rougher ground and tide.
From high piers or deep rock ledges, fish a live pout/whiting/launce. Sliding trace lets it roam near bottom structure where ling hunt; pennel secures the livie. Deadly on the flood.
Streamlined long-snood rig for distance to deep channels or gullies. Keeps a big bait clipped for casting, then fishes hard on the deck. Best over cleaner-to-mixed ground when range matters.
