6.3 · Pier · Kent
Ramsgate East Pier is a long concrete harbour arm reached on foot from the Royal Harbour area, with railings and deep water close in. It is a useful mixed-species mark, best around moving water and at dusk, producing summer pelagics and bream alongside winter whiting, cod and pouting; exposed conditions and any access restrictions should be checked before travelling.
Today · Best available
Best available: 09:00-12:00 around the rising tide
Most likely species: Mackerel and Garfish
Fair conditions. Best available around 09:00-12:00 around the rising tide, but no window reaches the strong threshold today. Good chance of Mackerel and Garfish.
Fishable, but pick your timing carefully.

Met Office · Open-Meteo
Where the data comes from. Weather and sea-state readings come from the Met Office and Open-Meteo forecast models, refreshed several times a day. High and low water are taken from tide-station predictions for this stretch of coast.
How the score works. Each window is scored 0–100 from the signals that most reliably move fish inshore: tide movement (a running tide carries food, so the last of the flood and first of the ebb are usually the prime spells), wind speed and direction (onshore wind stirs food into the surf — up to the point it makes fishing hard), sea state (a little wave and swell movement helps, heavy swell hurts), and weather — rain, temperature and light. Behind the headline number we score bite opportunity and comfort separately, and run a separate safety check on wind and swell. The size of the tide counts too: spring tides move more water than neaps, so the tidal range for this stretch of coast is weighed alongside the tide's direction, your target species and this mark — and unusually big springs strengthen the safety check, because the water rises faster and covers more ground.
Your target species counts. Pick a species below and the score also weights what we know about it — its season, preferred sea temperature, tide stage and sea state, and whether it feeds by day or night.
The rating is guidance, not a guarantee — conditions change fast on the coast, so always judge the sea in front of you before you fish.

Safety check
Strong spring tides — the sea rises faster and reaches further up the shore than usual, so allow extra margin on access routes and cut-off points.
The fishing rating combines opportunity and comfort. Always check local sea conditions; the safety check is guidance, not a guarantee.
Spring vs neap tides. Spring tides have a larger difference between high and low water, so more water moves on each tide — usually stronger flow that stirs up food and gets fish feeding. Neap tides have a smaller range and generally gentler movement. The range here is compared with what is normal for this stretch of coast, and the cycle swings between springs and neaps roughly every week, following the moon.
Big spring tides: the water rises faster and covers more ground than usual — double-check access routes and cut-off points before you fish.

Ramsgate East Pier is the exposed eastern arm of Ramsgate Royal Harbour, offering deep-water access close to the harbour entrance and a useful mix of harbour, pier-end and open-sea fishing. It is a versatile mark rather than a guaranteed specimen venue, with its best spells often coming around moving water, after dark and when seasonal fish are passing the Thanet coast.
The mark is on the east side of Ramsgate Royal Harbour, reached from the harbour and seafront area rather than from a remote beach. Access arrangements can change with harbour works, weather damage, events and operational or security requirements.
Ramsgate East Pier can support the usual north-east Kent pier and harbour-mouth species, with the catch changing markedly through the year and according to water clarity. Small fish are common, but the open position gives a realistic chance of better seasonal visitors.
A simple two-rod approach works well: one baited bottom rod for resident and passing fish, with a lighter spinning or float outfit ready when surface activity appears. Match tackle strength to the ground and weather, as a light set-up can become difficult to control in an onshore blow.
The pier is fishable across a range of tide states, but the strength and direction of flow around the harbour entrance can make some stages considerably easier than others. A moderate moving tide is often more productive than complete slack water, provided the lead can be held and presentation remains tidy.
This is an urban pier mark, but it is still exposed to wind, waves, slippery surfaces and heavy harbour traffic. Its hard surface and railings make it easier to reach than many beach marks, yet it is not automatically suitable for every angler or every weather forecast.
Ramsgate is well supplied compared with isolated coastal marks, with shops, food outlets, public transport links and town-centre services within the wider harbour area. Exact opening times, parking terms and public toilet availability should be checked locally, particularly outside the main holiday season.
The most consistent approach is to fish the pier as a changing-water venue rather than simply casting as far as possible. Spend a little time observing current direction, bird activity, baitfish and the positions being used safely by regular anglers before committing to a line.
Fishing permission at Ramsgate East Pier should not be assumed to be permanent simply because anglers have used the area previously. Harbour authority instructions, port or security controls, temporary closures and posted signage take priority, and anglers should check these before setting up.
