Anderby Creek is a classic Lincolnshire open-beach sea-fishing mark, best known for autumn and winter fishing for codling, whiting and flatfish. It is a straightforward sandy venue with plenty of room, although the exposed North Sea frontage can become challenging very quickly in wind and surf.

• It is usually more productive when there is some coloured water, a decent sea running, or fish moving close along the coast.
• This is primarily a bait-fishing venue rather than a lure mark, with long casts useful at times but not always essential.

Anderby Creek lies on the Lincolnshire coast between Sutton-on-Sea and Chapel St Leonards, with access from the small resort village and its beach approaches. Anglers normally park in the village or designated coastal parking areas, then walk over the dunes or access paths to the sand.

• For codling and whiting, use clipped pennel, pulley or flowing rigs baited with fresh or salted worm, squid, crab when available, mussel, razorfish or mixed cocktails.
• For dab and flounder, smaller hooks, lighter traces and worm, mussel or small fish-bait strips are effective; a little movement from a rolling rig can help.
• Start by casting into visible channels, darker water, surf lines or the edges of sandbars, then vary distance until bites show.

This is an exposed, natural beach rather than a sheltered harbour mark, and the tidal creek deserves particular respect. The sand can be uneven and soft, the wind can be fierce, and darkness makes changing channels much harder to judge.

• Do not attempt to cross the creek channel, wade around the mouth, or stand where a rising tide could cut off your return route.
• Keep well back from breaking surf in rough weather; waves can surge much farther up the beach than expected.
• Wear suitable footwear for soft sand and wet ground, carry a headtorch after dark, and keep a charged phone in a waterproof pouch.
• Avoid fishing alone in poor weather, tell someone where you are going, and leave immediately if conditions deteriorate.
• Beach access involves sand and dune paths, so it may be difficult for anglers with limited mobility; assess the current route and surface before committing to a long walk.

The village provides the basic conveniences expected of a small coastal resort, while the beach itself remains largely undeveloped once away from the main approach. Facilities and seasonal opening arrangements can change, particularly outside the holiday season.

• Look for designated parking, public conveniences and refreshments in or close to the village rather than expecting services on the fishing beach.
• Shops and food outlets may have limited hours outside peak visitor periods, so bring bait, drinking water, warm clothing and any essential supplies.

The best approach is to treat Anderby Creek as a mobile beach mark: arrive early enough to read the ground, then move if the water in front of you looks featureless or heavily disturbed by activity. Fresh bait, sensible timing and fishing through the right weather window matter more here than elaborate tackle.

• In summer, walk away from the busiest family areas and give other beach users generous space.
• After a blow, look for newly formed gullies and slightly coloured water, but do not assume last week's productive feature still exists.
• During a quiet spell, try a second rod or alternate casts at short, medium and longer range to locate feeding fish.
