It is a useful mixed-ground-and-sand venue for anglers prepared to move, find a gutter or work around the groynes, with the better sport often arriving after dark or in coloured water.

• The mark is best treated as a roving beach: small changes in scour, channels and sandbanks can make one stretch fish far better than the next.

Sandilands lies on the Lincolnshire coast between the Sutton-on-Sea area and the quieter beaches to the south, with beach access generally made from local public paths and seafront access points. The shoreline is long and open, so it is worth walking away from the busiest entrances if conditions and the tide allow.

• Use established pedestrian access points through the dunes or from the seafront; avoid forcing a route through fenced land, sensitive dune vegetation or private property.

• A beachcaster with a fixed-spool or multiplier reel, shock leader and a suitably strong terminal set-up covers normal fishing well.
• Use a two-hook clipped or flapping rig for dabs, flounder and whiting where the flow permits; use a pulley, pennel-style or single larger-bait rig when seeking codling, bass or rays.

A flooding tide is usually the practical starting point at Sandilands because it brings fishable depth progressively closer to the beach. The ideal stage varies with the current shape of the sand, but many anglers concentrate their effort from the later flood through high water and into the early ebb.

• Arrive early enough to read the low-water ground if possible, noting gullies, bank edges, mussel or shell patches and the safest route back.
• A moderate onshore breeze or recently coloured sea can improve prospects for codling and bass, but strong surf can make casting, fish care and safe access difficult.
• Calm, clearer conditions can favour flatfish and more delicate presentations, particularly when a defined channel holds water.
• Night sessions often improve whiting fishing and can reduce disturbance on a busy beach, but only if the return route, tide and weather have been planned.

This is an exposed coast with a wide tidal range, soft areas of sand and weather that can change quickly. It can be accessible for anglers able to manage a sandy walk, but the soft, uneven foreshore and dune approaches are not reliably suitable for wheelchairs or heavily loaded trolleys.

• Never allow the rising tide to cut off your route through a channel or around a groyne; keep a clear, dry route to the access point in mind throughout the session.
• Wear suitable footwear for wet sand and concealed gullies, and use warm, waterproof clothing in colder months because wind chill on this coast is substantial.
• Give groynes a wide berth in rough seas: wet timber, algae and wave wash make them hazardous, and the water beside them may scour deeply.
• Avoid fishing alone in severe weather, take a charged phone and tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
• Keep tackle, lines and hooks clear of public walking routes, dogs and children, particularly near popular access points.

Facilities are generally better in nearby resort areas than on the quieter lengths of Sandilands itself, so the beach should be approached as a relatively self-sufficient fishing trip. Bring the essentials rather than depending on toilets, food outlets, lighting or tackle supplies being available at the precise point where you fish.

• Nearby settlements may offer shops, cafés, public conveniences and seasonal services, but opening times and availability vary.
• Carry drinking water, a headtorch for dusk or night fishing, a first-aid kit, spare batteries and enough food for the planned session.
• Take all litter, discarded line, bait packaging and any cut-off rig components home; these beaches are used by wildlife, walkers and dogs.
• A compact trolley can help on firmer access paths, but it may become difficult to pull once on loose dry sand or across soft low-water ground.

The key local skill is reading the beach rather than committing to a famous fixed peg. A short reconnaissance walk at low water can be more valuable than an extra hour of casting from featureless sand.

• Fish the ends of productive-looking gullies, not the deepest-looking water alone; a bait placed on the edge of a flowing channel can be easier for fish to find.
• If bites are scarce, move along the beach or alter range before assuming the whole venue is empty.
• In a sea with suspended colour, use fresh, scent-rich baits and make sure the bait is securely bound so it survives the cast and wash.
• In calmer water, scale down hook size and bait size for flatfish and whiting rather than persisting with a large cod bait.
• Respect other beach users and leave generous space around groynes, access paths and dog-walking areas.

There is no clear indication that recreational sea angling is universally prohibited along Sandilands Beach, but local restrictions can apply to particular accesses, dune land, parking areas, beach management zones and temporary works.
