Titchwell Beach

5.7· Beach · Norfolk

An open, gently shelving sandy beach reached on foot from the Titchwell/RSPB side via public paths, with a worthwhile walk over the dunes. It is a tide-led North Sea mark: fish the flooding tide and around high water for flatfish, bass and summer species, with whiting and the chance of cod in colder weather; expect an exposed shoreline, shifting gullies and occasional weed after rough seas.

Why this rating?

  • Manageable wave movement: fishable with moderate shelter.
  • Gentle 12mph SW breeze puts a little life on the water without heavy drift.
  • High water at 03:41 and 16:45 — the last of the flood and first of the ebb are usually the prime spells.
  • Low rain risk (17%) — should stay comfortable all session.

Titchwell is a shallow, open, clean-sand North Sea beach where timing and beach-reading matter more than brute casting distance. Make the walk worthwhile by locating a gully, sandbar cut or darker-water edge on the ebb, then fish it through the last flood, high water and early ebb. It is strongest as a summer mixed-beach and flatfish venue, with bass in coloured water, then whiting after dark in autumn and winter; cod are an occasional cold-weather bonus rather than a primary plan.

  • Fish the returning tide, not Titchwell’s exposed low-water flats
  • Find the gully on the ebb before committing to a casting spot
  • Match clear settled water to flatfish—and coloured water to bass
  • Know when a northerly sea offers a cod chance, not a cod guarantee
  • Turn a rough or poorly timed session into a considered nearby move
