Gore Point

5.2· Beach · Norfolk

Gore Point is a remote, tide-shaped sand and shingle point on the Burnham Overy/Holkham frontage, best reached on foot from Burnham Overy Staithe via the dunes and beach. It is a mobile, open-coast mark rather than a comfortable all-tide platform: fish the flood, high water and early ebb for bass, flatfish and rays, with winter whiting and the chance of cod when conditions are right. Check tide times carefully, as channels, soft sand and the long return walk can make access hazardous.

Why this rating?

  • Manageable wave movement: fishable with moderate shelter.
  • Gentle 12mph SW breeze puts a little life on the water without heavy drift.
  • High water at 03:06 and 16:10 — the last of the flood and first of the ebb are usually the prime spells.

Gore Point is a mobile, exposed sand-and-shingle point where the productive water is defined by the day’s gutters, creek mouths and channel edges rather than a permanent casting spot. It is best treated as a flood-to-early-ebb session for anglers prepared to assess the beach on arrival and keep a conservative eye on the return route.

  • Fish today’s active gutter, not yesterday’s casting mark.
  • Time the final flood and early ebb without sacrificing your exit route.
  • Match the channel to the target: close-in bass, range for winter whiting.
  • Know when Gore Point is too exposed—and when to switch marks.
