Cobbolds Point is a serious, tide-led Suffolk shore mark on Felixstowe’s southern waterfront, influenced by the lower Orwell/Harwich Harbour system and nearby commercial navigation. It can produce good mixed fishing, but it is not a forgiving venue: conditions, access and the precise fishable area can change quickly.

• Best approached as a moving-water mark rather than a simple open-beach venue.
• Expect a mixture of clean shingle, harder ground and potentially snaggy or disturbed seabed depending on the exact position fished.
• It is most worthwhile for anglers prepared to time a tide, travel light and move if the water or weed makes a chosen spot unfishable.

Cobbolds Point lies on the Felixstowe side of the Suffolk coast, close to the lower Orwell/Harwich Harbour approach waters. Public access should be treated carefully, as nearby land, shoreline works and port-related areas may be controlled or subject to temporary restrictions.

• Bass are a principal warm-water target, especially when coloured water, baitfish and a sensible flood-tide window coincide.
• Flounder, dabs and occasional sole may feature over suitable ground, with flounder particularly relevant where the water has an estuarine influence.
• Whiting are realistic autumn and winter targets, and codling can appear in the right conditions, though they should never be assumed.
• Eels, small rays and dogfish are possible on appropriate baits and ground, particularly during milder periods and after dark.
• Mackerel and other pelagic fish may show in clearer summer water, but boat traffic, tide and water colour can make lure fishing very variable.

This is a location where sensible positioning is essential. Fast-moving water, changing beach levels, slippery sea defences, darkness and nearby commercial traffic all demand more care than at a sheltered family beach.

• Check the tide before setting up and leave yourself a dry, obvious exit route; do not allow a rising tide to cut off your path.
• Stay well back from the water’s edge on rough days and do not fish from unstable, algae-covered or wave-washed structures.
• Wear suitable boots with grip, warm waterproof clothing and a headtorch after dark; a flotation aid is sensible when fishing close to deep or moving water.
• Fish with a companion where possible, tell somebody where you are going and keep a charged phone protected from spray.
• Do not wade in harbour-influenced or fast tidal water. The current, depth changes and vessel wash can be hazardous even in apparently calm weather.

No blanket fishing ban is confirmed here, but Cobbolds Point is close enough to controlled waterfront and navigation activity that anglers must verify the exact place they intend to fish. Legal public access to one section of shore does not grant access to adjacent port, harbour, private or signed-off areas.
