Jubilee Beach

5.7· Beach · Essex

A central Southend sandy beach on the north side of the Thames Estuary, Jubilee Beach has easy promenade access and shallow, groyne-broken water over sand and mud. It is primarily a tide-dependent light-to-medium beach-fishing mark, best worked around the flooding tide or after dark when summer bass, flatfish and winter whiting move closer.

Why this rating?

  • Small swell and lighter wind: relatively calm.
  • Gentle 11mph SW breeze puts a little life on the water without heavy drift.
  • High water at 09:37 and 22:15 — the last of the flood and first of the ebb are usually the prime spells.
  • Warm (21°C) — bright spells can push fish deeper, so favor low light.
  • Low rain risk (6%) — should stay comfortable all session.

Jubilee Beach is a short-range, tide-led Thames Estuary beach rather than an all-day, distance-casting venue. Its best value is a quiet flood-tide session into high water, when shallow sand-and-mud water comes within comfortable casting range and estuary species move closer. Keep tackle tidy, vary short-to-medium casts, and use the groyne-broken beach carefully while maintaining a clear, safe casting area.

  • Fish the flood, not the empty foreshore
  • Know when short casts beat distance at Jubilee Beach
  • Match groynes, sand and mud to the right species
  • Turn a short high-water session into a focused plan
