Bell Wharf Beach lies by the historic Old Leigh waterfront at Leigh-on-Sea, with the foreshore exposed below the surrounding quays, paths and buildings. Access is straightforward on foot from Old Leigh, but usable fishing room can be very limited and changes markedly with the tide.

• Approach from the public waterfront and use only obvious public foreshore or permitted hard-standing; do not cross private yards, jetties, boat ramps or working areas.
• Parking in Old Leigh can be limited, charged and especially difficult at weekends, during school holidays and in good weather.
• The shoreline is much more reachable around high water. At low water, extensive mud and shallow water can leave little practical casting water.
