Brackenberry Wyke is a rough, intimate North Yorkshire rock mark rather than an easy beach venue. It can produce good fishing when the sea is settled enough to fish safely, with the rock gullies and kelp holding a useful mix of summer and winter species.

• Arrive early enough to watch the sea for a while and identify the highest reach of occasional larger waves, not just the average wave line.
• Fish a proven clear lane between kelp beds rather than casting blindly into the roughest visible ground.
