Whitby West Pier

Whitby West Pier is a classic, exposed North Yorkshire harbour-mouth mark, valued for its deep water, strong tidal movement and chance of quality rock-edge fish as well as seasonal pelagic sport. It can fish very well, but it is not a forgiving venue: sea state, weed and harbour activity decide whether it is sensible or productive on any given visit.

• The pier sits on the west side of Whitby harbour entrance and gives casts into the outer harbour approaches and North Sea rather than sheltered marina water.
