Gibraltar Point

6.0· Beach · Lincolnshire

A long, open tidal-sand beach on the edge of the Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, best reached by walking from the visitor-centre or nearby beach access and then fishing clear of protected dunes and channels. It is a classic Lincolnshire surf mark: fish the flooding tide and deeper gullies for flatfish, bass and summer rays, with whiting and occasional cod more likely in autumn and winter; conditions can change quickly with tide, wind and shifting sandbanks.

Why this rating?

  • Manageable wave movement: fishable with moderate shelter.
  • Gentle 12mph SW breeze puts a little life on the water without heavy drift.
  • High water at 03:05 and 16:08 — the last of the flood and first of the ebb are usually the prime spells.
  • Low rain risk (4%) — should stay comfortable all session.
  • Bite rating is strong today — fish the peak windows with confidence.

A mobile, shallow surf beach where the day’s best decision is usually finding a fresh gutter rather than chasing maximum casting range. Fish the flood into high water, concentrate on darker water, draining lines and defined surf, and match bait size and rig strength to the season and sea state.

  • Find the gutter that puts fishable depth within reach on the flood
  • Know when a close surf feature beats a maximum-distance cast
  • Match rigs and baits from flatfish and whiting to rays and occasional codling
  • Use a clear weather filter before committing to this exposed beach
