Reighton Sands

6.1· Beach · North Yorkshire

A broad, sandy, cliff-backed beach south of Filey, fished from open sand into gullies, darker water and occasional rougher patches. Access is generally via the Reighton Sands holiday park/beach routes and involves a steep descent, but it is a productive seasonal beach for flatfish, bass and autumn-winter codling and whiting.

Reighton Sands is a mobile, surf-and-gully beach rather than a distance-casting venue. Build sessions around a fishable, moderately coloured sea and work the darker channels, smoother runs and gully lips as the flood develops. It is strongest seasonally for warm-weather bass and flatfish, then codling, whiting and dab as autumn and winter arrive.

  • Fish the gully lip, not just the horizon
  • Time the flood for Reighton’s most dependable window
  • Match autumn colour to codling and whiting tactics
  • Know when a short move beats a longer cast
