Filey Coble Landing

6.4· Beach · North Yorkshire

Filey Coble Landing is the central, easily reached section of Filey’s broad sandy bay, accessed from the promenade and slipway areas near the fishing cobles. It is mainly a clean-to-mixed sand beach with occasional rougher patches and a gently shelving tide, producing straightforward flatfish and whiting fishing, with cod possible in colder, rougher conditions and summer pelagic sport when fish move close in.

This is a straightforward beach mark with clean-to-mixed sand, a gentle shelf and occasional rougher ground towards the Brigg. It is most worthwhile when a flooding tide meets low light and the sea has a little colour: use the cleaner sand for flatfish and dab, then edge towards mixed or broken patches for whiting, pouting and winter cod. Treat the landing as a working area and keep clear of coble-launching activity.

  • Know when the clean sand beats the Brigg-side mixed ground
  • Time the flood into high water for the mark’s strongest general window
  • Switch from coloured-water bait fishing to clear-water summer pelagic tactics
  • Avoid wasted sessions in flat, clear conditions or an active launch zone
