Cleethorpes Beach

6.0· Beach · Lincolnshire

Cleethorpes Beach is a long, gently shelving sandy shore on the south side of the Humber Estuary, fished from the promenade-backed beach between groynes and open sand. Access is exceptionally easy via seafront parking and level paths, but the fishing is tide-led: a flooding or high-water session generally produces best, with estuary species, flatfish and winter round fish the main targets.

Why this rating?

  • Manageable wave movement: fishable with moderate shelter.
  • Gentle 10mph SW breeze puts a little life on the water without heavy drift.
  • High water at 02:41 and 15:42 — the last of the flood and first of the ebb are usually the prime spells.
  • Low rain risk (3%) — should stay comfortable all session.

Cleethorpes is a tide-led Humber-estuary beach where timing and position matter more than simply casting hard. Fish the advancing water, prioritise the latter flood and early ebb, and choose a quieter stretch with room to cast safely rather than the busiest central frontage. A close-in bait is essential for flounder and can outfish a horizon cast as the tide builds.

  • Fish the flood, not the empty low-water sand.
  • Know when a close-in flounder bait beats a long cast.
  • Choose the quieter frontage without sacrificing a safe retreat.
  • Build a two-rod plan for close flatfish and farther-out whiting.
